Osoba tells Nigerians to accept Tinubu’s shortcomings and that, as a Yoruba son, he will serve for further four years after this tenure.

At the All Progressives Congress (APC) South West Zone Assembly meeting, which was held at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, this message was given.

Former Ogun State governor Chief Olusegun Osoba has urged Nigerians to back President Bola Tinubu, claiming that the latter’s election to the presidency is a group accomplishment based on Yoruba leadership.

This speech was given at the All Progressives Congress (APC) South West Zone Assembly, which was hosted in Lagos at the Eko Hotels & Suites.

Prominent regional politicians recognised their critical roles in Tinubu’s political rise in a widely shared post on the X platform.

Osoba drew attention to a pivotal decision taken by South West leaders in 2007 that helped Tinubu make the move from state politics to the national arena. Osoba said, “Bola didn’t make himself the President of Nigeria; we did.”

He clarified, saying, “We got together at a luncheon hosted by Alhaji Hamsa, our leader in the South West at the time, seventeen years ago, in 2007, following his term as governor of Lagos State.

“It was at that meeting we collectively decided that Bola should move from Lagos politics to the national stage, to represent the interests of the Yoruba people at the topmost level of Nigerian politics.”

The meeting also discussed the historical obstacles the Yoruba people have faced in their aspiration to become the nation’s leaders.

“A lot of us here today worked really hard to support the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s presidential campaign, but he wasn’t allowed to get there,” said Osoba.

He went on, saying, “In a same vein, we supported the late MKO Abiola’s bid for president, but we lost him and the opportunity along with him. Because of our ambition to improve this country, they slaughtered a great number of us. However, we are grateful to God that some of us are still here to see Bola Tinubu’s triumph.

Inspiring the assembly and the larger Yoruba community, Osoba called for backing Tinubu regardless of any perceived flaws.

Now that Bola Tinubu is present, I beg of you all to overlook his inadequacies. He’ll perform better. He said, “As a Yoruba son, he will serve an additional four years after his first four-year tenure.

Bola Tinubu, who has been president of Nigeria since 2023, has become a significant player in Nigerian politics.

However, Osoba restated, “The message from the South West Assembly is unambiguous: the Yoruba leadership is unified behind Tinubu’s presidency and is confident that he will fulfil his commitments during his term.”
