In an effort to better the conditions for drivers, the Federal Ministry of Works has started emergency repairs on malfunctioning portions of the Abuja-Kaduna Dual Carriageway.
Mohammed Ahmed, the ministry’s director of press and public relations, made this news in a statement on Sunday.
The document states that on October 2, 2024, Messrs. H&M (Nig.) Ltd., the contractor, mobilised to the site.
According to Ahmed, the expressway’s Section I contract has a two-week completion deadline and covers kilometres 0 + 00 (Zuba, Federal Capital Territory) to kilometres 31 + 200 (Tafa, the border between the Niger and Kaduna States).
Patching existing potholes and reinstalling seriously damaged portions of the road are included in the contract’s scope. N366 million (three hundred and sixty-six million naira) is the approved contract sum, the speaker stated.
He further stated that Olufemi Adetunji, the Director of Special Projects (North), and Mohammed Goni, the Director of Highways for North Central Zone I, had urged the contractor to strictly adhere to the terms of the contract during an inspection tour of the project on Saturday. They emphasised that no extensions to the completion period would be granted.
Goni highlighted the project’s function as an engine for economic growth by characterising it as an essential route linking the nation’s northern and southern areas.
Reiterating the administration’s commitment to improving vital road infrastructure, he gave Nigerians assurances that additional repairs on the remaining unsuccessful sections from Tafa to Kaduna would be awarded upon the successful conclusion of this contract.
According to Mr. Lawrence Emmanuel, Project Supervisor for H&M (Nig.) Ltd., the unsuccessful portions that continue to Dikko Junction in Niger State are being cut and shaped, and the construction is moving forward.
He said that it is anticipated that these areas will be asphalted starting on Monday.
Though he promised a quick completion, he expressed concerns about heavy traffic hampering the work progress.
Goni revealed that Yakubu Usman, the Federal Controller of Works for the Federal Capital Territory, was also present for the inspection. Usman promised daily inspections and careful project supervision for the duration of the project.
