The former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, was called for to be arrested, but the Centre for Justice and Peace, or CJP, has since recanted the statement.
Dr. Stephen Okparaibe, the Center’s director general, claimed during a news conference in Abuja that a few desperate politicians had taken on the identity of the organisation and been making pronouncements on its behalf.
Okpara called the people “paid agents” who are determined to spread confusion.
The individual’s attempt to compromise the group’s “integrity and independence will not be tolerated,” he declared.
He claims that the alleged statement, which states that CJP would not call for the arrest of someone who had willingly turned himself in to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is in conflict with the group’s basic beliefs.
We find it shocking that desperate politicians would pay criminals to pose as our group and make derogatory remarks.
We will not put up with this clear attempt to compromise our independence and integrity.
“How could we if the EFCC, who declared Mr. Bello wanted, held him for more than four hours without making an arrest or bringing charges against him?” He stated.
