Sokoto government presents the Economic Advisory Council.

In order to help solve the current hardships encountered by the people and build the state’s economic plan, Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu launched a 19-man economic advisory council on Sunday.

Aliyu bemoaned the state’s low tax collection and lack of economic statistics during his speech to inaugurate the committee in the Government House in Sokoto’s Council Chamber.

He urged the council to present practical answers for such problems, claiming that his administration has been paying off debts inherited from his predecessor since the beginning.

“I implore you to surpass our anticipations and provide the essential direction required to hasten the state’s economic advancement.

He went on, “I also implore you to apply your broad experience in finance, business, and industry for the advancement of the state in accordance with my administration’s strategic agenda.”

During his speech, Bello Maccido, the chairman of the council, gave the governor the assurance that his team will make every effort to provide the government with advice on how to turn the state’s fortunes around and put it on a stable path towards economic development.

He declared, “We will be offering advice on the areas of concentration and on creative financial solutions that will support the state, expanding its sources of funding.”

The immediate former vice-chancellor of Usman Danfodiyo University, Prof. Lawal Bilbis, Ibrahim Gobir, Abdulkar Bello, Abdullahi Tafida, and Umar Ajiya, who will act as the committee’s alternate chairman, are among the other members.

Bashir Achida, the governor’s Special Advisor on Economy, will act as secretary.
