FG reiterates its dedication to food security

On Monday, Vice President Kashim Shettima stated that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is dedicated to tackling the issue of food security in Nigeria, particularly malnourishment.

Shettima stated that cooperation between international organisations and other significant players will bolster the endeavours of national and local law enforcement.

This was said by the vice president on Monday during a courtesy visit from a World Food Programme delegation, which was headed by Mrs. Cindy McCain, the organization’s executive director.

This was disclosed in a statement headlined “President Tinubu Committed To Food Security In Nigeria-VP Shettima” by Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communication.

The President has pledged to take up the fundamental issue of food security.

“He has committed to addressing food insecurity, and we need to work with the Nigerian government and the WFP to strengthen food systems and improve nutrition in the nation,” the vice president said.

The Vice President said the establishment of the school feeding initiative to reduce malnutrition among children was in keeping with the president’s objective for food security in Nigeria.

In particular, he wanted to see the Ministry of Agriculture and the WFP work together more to combat hunger and enhance our food systems.

“Right from my days as a governor in Borno, we have had a very close working relationship with the WFP,” the vice president said, recalling the WFP’s assistance for Borno state during his tenure as governor. They supported us, stood by us, and showed their unity without pandering to the crowd.

“I want to ask for more and I truly thank you for all of your efforts. Borno’s governor is a highly devoted and honourable man.

“He needs additional assistance since he is totally dedicated to the welfare of the people. But the difficulty in Borno as it is all across the country, is humongous.”

In her speech, McCain stated that she and her team were in the nation to investigate potential areas of future cooperation between Nigeria and the World Food Program in order to address the issues the populace was facing.

She stated that “the unique potential to explore Africa-led solutions to the challenges is exciting and commendable,” adding that the WFP is delighted about the government’s initiatives to address the problems of food security and malnutrition.

She promised that the group would continue to work with Nigerian authorities at all levels to support their efforts to lessen suffering among the populace, particularly in conflict-affected areas.
