IPMAN, The Petroleum Marketers’ Union, Claims NNPC Refused To Provide Gas At Old Price Despite Previous Payments

According to IPMAN, the members paid for the item prior to the most recent increase in gas prices, which increased the price to almost N1030.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has been accused by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) of attempting to shortchange it by refusing to either deliver petrol at the previous price paid by its members or reimburse their money.

According to IPMAN, the members paid for the item prior to the most recent increase in gas prices, which increased the price to almost N1030.

During a Thursday appearance on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, IPMAN National President Abubakar Garima stated that they had already paid for petrol goods prior to the NNPCL’s announcement of the increase on Wednesday.

But he also said that before they could load merchandise, the corporation had been requesting payment of the remaining amount.

According to Garima, NNPCL paid less than N900 for the merchandise that they bought from Dangote, but now they want us to pay N1,010 in Lagos, N1,045 in Calabar, N1,050 in Port Harcourt, and N1,040 in Warri for the identical item.

“We, the independent market, are unable to load because we have not loaded a single truck since they made this increment because we must pay in cash before we load the products,” he stated.

Since we had previously paid for the goods, they refused to load us with the cash that was already with the NNPCL. They told us to come and make up the difference instead of loading us.

The completion of the difference is a significant task since there are formalities that must be followed.

“Secondly, it is a significant difficulty when we learn that they are selling below the price they are giving us at the depot at their filling stations and at the Dangote Refinery.

“Because our price will ultimately be higher than how they have been selling when we go there and buy and then add our transportation money.”

“We’ve instructed them to figure out how to get our money back into our accounts so we can go straight to Dangote and make the purchase.

Because we typically purchase goods directly from them (Dangote) before loading, our money is currently with them. Our money is with them right now.

“We have instructed them to either sell to us at the same price that Dangote is offering, or they will reimburse our money, in which case we will visit Dangote and make the purchase. We began the negotiation on Wednesday,” he continued.

He claimed that although the NNPCL had requested that they purchase the product at N990, it is now selling at its filling stations for N998 because it is obtaining the product from Dangote Refinery for less than N900.
