A commitment to sports development is reaffirmed by Capital Express Assurance

As one of the sponsors of the 2024 Federation of African Student Universities Games, Capital Express Assurance Limited demonstrated its dedication to the advancement of sports.

In a press release, it declared that it was the official insurance provider for all local athletes competing in the games, highlighting its steadfast dedication to protecting not only the future of African sports but also the safety and welfare of the athletes who stand in for the hopes of the continent.

“At Capital Express Assurance Limited, we are deeply committed to supporting excellence in all forms,” stated Mr. Mathew Ogwezhi, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer. Participating in sports is an effective way to develop resilience, discipline, and leadership. We are giving these young athletes more than just financial protection by insuring them; we are also giving them peace of mind, enabling them to concentrate only on their performance in the knowledge that they are safe.

Ogwezhi underlined that the sponsorship of FASU 2024 demonstrated a strong dedication to enabling the next generation of African leaders in academics and other spheres of life in addition to athletics.

The University of Lagos’ Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, thanked competitors and officials during the closing ceremony and praised their abilities, tenacity, and sportsmanship. Noting that the games’ purpose goes beyond the pitch, she thanked the sponsors and complimented LASU for co-hosting the event.

Her counterpart, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, emphasised the fruitful partnership between LASU and UNILAG in producing a thrilling event for Africa.

Her words, along with the state governor’s support, were that Lagos 2024 demonstrated the potential of sports to bring people together across boundaries.

She exhorted everyone to keep encouraging excellence, rivalry, and unity.

The vice president, Ms. Tsitsi Muzuva, on behalf of FASU President Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, stated that the FASU games were a real celebration of academic sporting achievement.

He praised the record-breaking performances throughout the tournament and complimented the hosts for their wonderful hospitality.

She emphasised a shared passion of sports and urged all participants to continue the spirit of friendship and unity created throughout the games.

She formally named the vice-chancellors of UNILAG and LASU as matrons of FASU 2024 in honour of their achievements.
