Gunmen kill four people at a mining site in the Plateau.

Following an ambush by gunmen on Friday night in the Bokkos Local Government Areas of the state, four young people have died in Plateau State.

Four people were immediately killed by the gunmen who ambushed the victims at a mining site in the Batura hamlet at around nine o’clock at night, according to information obtained.

In a statement on Saturday, Sabastine Magit, the president of the Butura Youth Movement, confirmed the killings.

Before leaving the location, Magit reported that the shooters had also injured five other people during the attack.

Bwefuk Musa, age 21; Klingshak Dickson, age 21; Promise Joshua, age 20; and Nyam Abaka, age 20, were named by the youth leader as the deceased.

“In another unprovoked attack on members of the Butura community, armed terrorists speaking the Fulani dialect opened fire on innocent youths working at a mining site near the villages of Kuba and Maikatako in the Butura district of Bokkos Local Government Area in Plateau State on October 10,” the statement stated.

“Without any provocation, the incident took place at around 9 p.m., leaving four innocent people dead and five more injured.

Only four days had passed since a terrible tragedy in the village of Wumat claimed the lives of five family members, including a pregnant mother.

Witnesses said that on October 10, the attackers carried out their plan in a split second, leaving the area before military personnel stationed at a nearby checkpoint could react. Unfortunately, five people were injured and four people died instantly. The deceased are Nyam Abaka, 20, Promise Joshua, 21, Klingshak Dickson, 21, and Bwefuk Musa, 21.

According to the statement, the four teenagers’ deaths were the most recent in a string of senseless assaults on their community, which had already experienced the deaths of over 20 of its members in the previous month alone. All of these killings were ascribed to known Fulani attackers.

When contacted, Alabo Alfred, the spokesperson for the Plateau State Command, Major Samson Zhakom, the spokesperson for the Military Taskforce charged with preserving peace in the state, and Musa Ashoms, the state commissioner for information, were not immediately available to comment on the incident due to multiple calls being placed to their lines ringing.
