
Governor Ahmed Aliyu provided the Nigerian Military with ten more cars on Friday to strengthen security in the state as part of efforts to guarantee that soldiers of the Nigerian Army curb banditry in Sokoto State.
The governor praised President Bola Tinubu’s concern for the security issues facing the country as he presented the vehicles to Bello Mutawalle, the Minister of State for Defence.
He claimed that the president’s orders for the minister of defence and service chiefs to move to Sokoto demonstrate his resolve to combat banditry and other criminal activity in the North-West in general as well as in Sokoto.
During our meeting, Mr. President and I spoke at length about the state of security in our beloved state, and he pledged his cooperation in finding a solution to all the security issues that confront us.
We are seeing the results, thank you very much, Mr. President. You have fulfilled your promise by sending the Honourable Minister and the service chiefs, Alhamdullahi.
In order to combat banditry in the state, Aliyu added that the 100 vehicles previously provided to security agencies were supplemented by the 10 patrol vehicles that were supplied to the military.
He gave everyone confidence in his promise to support the security services in their efforts to safeguard the state.
The governor further promised to allocate state funds to ensure the security of state residents’ lives and property.
He pledged, “We would do whatever it takes within the bounds of the law to protect our people. Security is number one on my nine-point agenda.”
The governor also expressed gratitude to the State Minister for Defence for his dedication in rescuing the North-West from its precarious security situation.
He claimed, “The minister has showed daring and tenacity by entering what was formerly a “NO GO AREA” and by even opening up regions that our people had previously abandoned.
Aliyu urged the state’s citizens to keep praying for Mr. President to be successful in his mission of safeguarding the country.
In his speech, Matawalle added that the governor’s constant insistence on Tinubu to intervene and save the state led to the presidential direction that they move to Sokoto.
“Mr. Governor, I would like to inform you that the President has authorised the purchase of CMG vehicles that will be stationed in Sokoto as part of a new operation code-named “FANSAR YAMMA,” which is intended to secure the North-West,” he said, citing the seriousness with which you have addressed the state’s security issues.
He gave Aliyu the assurance that the military was on his side and would stay with him to maintain the state’s long-term peace.
The minister praised Aliyu’s passion and dedication to eradicating crime from Sokoto.
“With his heart centred on the state, Ahmed Aliyu is a great leader for the people of Sokoto.”
“I want to reassure the governor that we will wisely use these vehicles that have been provided to us in order to drive out bandits from Sokoto state.”
Brig.-Gen. Ibikunle Ajose, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division of the Nigerian Army in Sokoto, commended the Governor for his unwavering support of the military in the state and reassured him that they are prepared to put an end to banditry.
Later, the minister travelled in one of the Buffalo vans that the governor had supplied, accompanied by his host and a few military officers.
