On Akanran Road in Ibadan, Oyo State, a multiple vehicle collision involving two tricycles, a haulage truck carrying tiles, and a lorry filled with soft drinks resulted in no fewer than six fatalities and five injuries.
The collision happened on Monday in the state’s Ona Ara Local Government Area in Oke Eleshin, Amuloko.
One of the injured was a student whose mother had apparently perished in the collision. At the Amuloko City Hospital, two kids received outpatient care while two more with more serious injuries were hospitalised for further care.
Under the condition of anonymity, an employee of the Oyo Road Transport Maintenance Agency said, “The accident happened in the early hours of today (Monday).”
“It was caused by the trailer’s brakes failing as it descended the road’s slope.”

The witness went on, “We have information that six people died and five people were injured.” Every one of them has been transported out of here.
The truck driver was criticised by onlookers for not diverting into a ditch to escape the approaching trike. The collision damaged two further vehicles and resulted in heavy gridlock.
Managing Director Raji Wale of Amuloko City Hospital attested to the fact that some of the victims were admitted to his facility.
He stated, “Two of the victims were treated as out-patients. Six victims were brought here with varying degrees of injury.”
Although she had not yet received all the information on the incident, Mary Alo, the state commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, acknowledged the accident.
