Peter Obi lamented the continued pain and suffering non-state actors inflict on families whose loved ones are often kidnapped and sometimes brutally murdered.
Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi claims that Nigerians are gradually losing count of the number of people who have perished as a result of the country’s instability.
Obi made this statement in a post on his X account on Sunday night in response to the deaths of a few SuperSport TV crew members who were ambushed and killed a few days prior along the Ihiala-Orlu Road in Anambra State.
The former governor of Anambra State bemoaned the fact that non-state actors persist in causing suffering and anguish to families whose loved ones are frequently abducted and occasionally brutally murdered.
A portion of the statement says, “Many people have continued to be concerned about the seemingly endless episodes of homicides, kidnappings, and other violent crimes around the nation. The issue has persisted unabatedly and is becoming worse every day.
“Families of loved ones who are frequently abducted and occasionally brutally murdered by non-state actors have endured more suffering and anguish.
“I express my complete condemnation of the sad ambush that claimed the lives of many Supersports TV crew members a few days ago along the Ihiala-Orlu Road in Anambra State.
These media professionals were travelling to Uyo to carry their official duties for their outlet and the country as a whole when the sad tragedy that claimed their lives and abducted others occurred.
“Two days ago, in the Agatu local government area of Benue state, criminals carried out a terror assault that left some people injured and some others dead.
“In our once-secure country, these violent attacks—many of which go unreported—have come to characterise our everyday lives.
“The number of persons who have died as a result of insecurity in our country is progressively slipping from our grasp. How much longer before we say enough is enough and let our people die?
“I pray for eternal rest for the deceased and speedy recovery for the injured, and I offer my condolences to the families who have lost loved ones to these recent attacks.”
“We are all in this together as a nation and will continue to demand for the security of lives and property of every Nigerian,” said the statement.
Nigeria is experiencing increasing levels of frustration due to the country’s growing security issues. The situation gets worse and worse, with widespread banditry, the insurgency of Boko Haram, frequent kidnappings, and the ongoing problem of oil theft in the Niger Delta.
