Significant differences between information from the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) and data released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have been revealed by an examination of the results of the September 2024 Edo State gubernatorial election.
CivicHive, Nigeria’s civictech nest, compiled the results.
INEC reported 2,610,730 registered voters, however IReV reported 2,500,331, according CivicHive’s statistics.
There may be a problem with the voter accreditation procedure because INEC registered 604,132 accredited voters whereas IReV recorded 576,489 voters.
Comparably, INEC recorded 570,690 legitimate votes, whereas IReV reported 542,143. This difference in total valid votes was also significant.
Further discrepancies are shown by breaking down the votes cast for each of the main parties.
While IReV displayed a lower total of 271,303 votes, INEC recorded 291,667 votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In contrast, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had a spike in votes, with 259,658 reported by IReV and 247,274 reported by INEC. The Labour Party (LP) received 18,600 votes in the IReV results, compared to 22,763 votes according to INEC.
The accuracy of reported data and the integrity of the electoral process are seriously called into doubt by these findings.
“CivicHive collated and analysed the Edo State governorship election results from the IREV platform, and these are some of the anomalies and shocking things we uncovered,” the statement claims.
As of the time of this report, 4466 out of 4519 uploads have been made to IREV, representing around 98.8% of the total findings that are anticipated to be available on the platform.
Only five of the eighteen LGAs have all of their findings properly posted. Through our investigation, we found several egregious irregularities in the way INEC personnel conducted the election, including instances of over voting, especially in Etsako East and other LGAs.
Okpebholo of the APC was proclaimed the election’s victor by INEC on Monday.
Ighodalo declared he would win the election by a landslide after casting his ballot.
