US Election: In an interview with Fox, Harris enters the lion’s den

With an appearance on Fox News on Wednesday, Kamala Harris continues her media assault into opposition territory. This comes after Donald Trump attempted to use the same network to appeal to female voters who are sceptical of his past.

In an effort to connect with hesitant Republicans who are sick of Trump’s divisive language, Democratic contender Harris will have a conversation with the conservative broadcaster in Pennsylvania, a state that is considered a battleground.

With fewer than three weeks remaining in the presidential campaign, both candidates are becoming more and more focused on finding methods to gain ground.

In a show that airs at 6:00 p.m. (2200 GMT), Harris will be questioned by Fox anchor Bret Baier, who is known for being a fair and tough interviewer. Harris is hoping to break the impasse by venturing into uncharted territory.

The vice president wants to dispel Republican accusations that she has shied away from contentious interviews, yet Fox News is the most popular cable news network in the US and has a sizable viewership.

Trump attacked Fox News for the Harris interview, calling the network “totally lost its way” and accused Baier of being “very soft.” Fox News has been instrumental in Trump’s electoral ascent.

In a prerecorded town hall with an all-female audience, he met with the network prior to Harris’s visit. There, the topic of vitro fertilisation (IVF), a reproductive technique that Democrats claim is endangered by his policies, came up.

Even though it was a familiar subject, it was difficult since Trump’s remarks on women’s reproductive rights and his campaign in general had alienated many women.

As he informed his audience in Georgia, a much watched swing state, that Republicans were the party supporting the practice, he was applauded.

“I would like to discuss IVF. He remarked, “I want to hear this question since I’m the father of IVF.

As a key component of her campaign platform, Harris has defended women’s right to an abortion and urged her rival to “accept responsibility for the fact that one in three women in America lives in a Trump abortion ban state.”

She told reporters aboard her plane, “The fact that IVF treatments are now at risk has so disappointed and harmed couples who are praying, hoping, and working towards growing a family.”

She also made fun of his stated support for IVF in a post on X, asking, “What is he talking about? His abortion restrictions have already put access to the procedure in jeopardy in several states, and his program may completely outlaw IVF.

Since the Supreme Court, which was composed of three judges Trump personally selected, eliminated federal safeguards for access to abortion in 2022, Trump’s stance on reproductive rights has become increasingly vulnerable.

Curbing IVF is something that many in the anti-abortion movement also support.

Amber Thurman, a 28-year-old mother of one, passed away in Georgia in August as a result of delays in obtaining treatment for complications stemming from a medical abortion. The Harris campaign organised a news conference to emphasise her story.

On Tuesday, the first day of early voting in the highly anticipated state of Georgia, where voters cast a record 328,000 votes, Trump’s town hall was captured on camera.

This Monday, a Georgia court struck down a new law mandating that election workers tally votes by hand.

Trump has been accused of manipulating the state’s elections by pressuring Georgian authorities to “find” enough ballots to reverse President Joe Biden’s close victory there in 2020.

With both contenders vying for the same advantage, the 2024 election looks to be just as tight.

The campaign of Harris has intensified its criticism of Trump, calling him “unhinged” for allegedly threatening to deploy the military against adversaries within his own country and making fun of a recent rally in which he spent over forty minutes dancing to music.

Trump reiterated during his town hall the belief that Democrats are America’s “enemy within,” which prompted the Harris campaign to accuse him of Nazism.
