There are allegations against certain Nigeria Police Force personnel that they chased an unidentified Lagos citizen into the Lagos Lagoon.
This was revealed in a string of tweets that user Omorehemi made on Thursday night.
According to Omorehemi, the event occurred on Wednesday morning at the Federal Bus Stop in Lagos State’s Iyana Ayobo neighbourhood.
“Police chased my friend’s husband until he fell into the canal yesterday morning. They took his slippers and money that fell and left when people started shouting,” the X user stated. This incident occurred at the Ipaja Ayobo axis federal bus stop. Right now, at Lasuth @BenHundeyin @PoliceNG, he is unconscious.
As shown in the video, the resident’s head injury from hitting a stone made falling into the lagoon worse.
“The police chased inside until he fell inside the lagoon,” he claimed. Our only goal was to save his life. He was being pursued by the cops. This morning (on Wednesday), they pursued him. He struck his head on the abrasive rock. They stole the money that dropped out of his pocket.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesman for the Lagos State police command, had not returned calls, thus attempts to get confirmation, remarks, or an update were unsuccessful.
Additionally, he didn’t respond to texts left on his cell phone.
Similar to this, the state police command detained and arrested two Lagos State Task Force personnel in June after they engaged in an unlawful operation that proved to be fatal.
According to Hundeyin, the police were carrying out an unlawful task and had taken several citizens with them. Sadly, the civilians were ambushed by motorbike riders, resulting in their death.
“On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, two police officers attached to the Lagos State Taskforce went on illegal duty, taking some civilians with them to shore up their numbers,” described Hundeyin, who was giving an account of the occurrence. Motorcycle riders attacked them, killing one of the victims in the process.
In addition, he added that if the cops were proven guilty, they would face consequences.
