During a confrontation with irate motorbike riders in Lagos, an assistant police supervisor was killed.

The ASP was killed after the crowd allegedly attacked the police without warning as hostilities grew more intense.

On Saturday morning in Agege, Lagos, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) who was yet to be named and was employed by the Lagos State Police Command was slain.

According to reports, the incident happened at the WEMCO intersection on Mobil Road at approximately 1:40 in the am. The officer led a group of police officers to the site of a truck and an Okada rider road accident.

It was discovered that the police unit had shown there to remove the truck that had knocked the motorcyclist down.

The rider and other Okada operators, however, put up a fierce fight against them and insisted that the vehicle be burned.

The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the death and called the incident unfortunate and unwarranted.

He denounced the Okada riders’ behaviour, saying that the police were only reacting to a distress call regarding the collision and were attempting to keep the peace.

The motorcyclist collided with the caravan near the WEMCO intersection Mobil Road, beside Pen Cinema Agege, according to Hundeyin’s preliminary inquiry.

“Unfortunately, the Okada rider died in the process,” stated him.

The crew saw a sizable group of motorbike riders who had congregated nearby when they arrived at the site. Nevertheless, the bikers attacked the patrol team while they were fleeing the truck and insisted on setting it on fire. while a consequence, one ASP, 46, was fatally struck in the head and passed away immediately, while the truck driver managed to flee.

Hundeyin continued, “A manhunt is underway for additional suspects, and five have already been arrested.”
