Over 150 people had died and several more had been injured as a result of the blast as of Thursday.
In order to prevent a repeat of the Jigawa State tanker disaster, the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has urged the Nigerian government to examine its policies that are making life very difficult for its inhabitants.
Over 150 people had died and several more had been injured as a result of the blast as of Thursday.
According to DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, the explosion happened on Wednesday as some locals were trying to remove fuel from a tanker after an incident.
In a statement released on Friday, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the National Coordinator of CNG, said that the occurrence served as a heartbreaking reminder of the nation’s serious issues as well as the frailty of life.
The CNG encouraged the administration of President Bola Tinubu to give road safety, healthcare, and emergency response capacities top priority.
In light of the tragic tanker explosion, the coalition sent its sincere condolences to the state administration and the people of Jigawa, especially the Taura Local administration Area. In addition, it prayed for courage and a quick recovery for the relatives of the deceased and injured.
We demand immediate action to address the underlying causes of these mishaps, especially the deplorable condition of the infrastructure, and the implementation of stringent safety measures in the movement of dangerous goods like petroleum products, according to Charanchi.
We also urge the government to give measures that lessen people’s suffering top priority, emphasising enhanced healthcare, road safety, and emergency response times.
“Every Nigerian must, no matter where they reside, feel safe and confident that the government values and is watching out for them.
“To guarantee that tragedies like this become a thing of the past, we as a nation must unite. We keep asking the Almighty Allah to keep our communities safe from calamities in the future.
As many victims reportedly saw the fuel spill as a way to get relief from their dire circumstances, the CNG reminds governments at all levels, especially the Federal Government, to review their policies that are making life extremely difficult for the people in order to prevent tragedies like this from happening.”
