Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command in a persistent campaign against abduction have murdered two alleged kidnappers during a raid on their hideaway on Thursday.
The spokesperson for the Command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said in a statement on Friday that the operatives had also saved one victim and found their weapons.
“On October 17, 2024, at approximately 8 p.m., members of the Enugu State Police Command’s Special Intervention, Distress Response, and Anti-Kidnapping Squads conducted a raid on a kidnappers’ hideout in Nokpa-Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area, in response to meticulously gathered actionable intelligence,” Ndukwe stated.
“The kidnappers opened fire upon the operatives’ arrival, which prompted a retaliation.” In the process, two of the suspects were neutralised, while others fled with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.”
He revealed a manhunt for the fleeing suspects and others linked to the syndicate had been launched, noting that Enugu State would no longer be safe for the criminals and their collaborators.
