Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran, declared on Saturday that the “Axis of Resistance” will continue to advance despite the passing of Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas.
Khamenei revealed the loss as a setback but stressed that the movement will persevere in a heartfelt message.
“His loss is undoubtedly painful for the Axis of Resistance, but this front did not cease advancing with the martyrdom of prominent figures,” he stated.
He said, “Hamas is alive and will remain alive.”
Ismail Sinwar, the architect of the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas on Israel that initiated the current crisis in Gaza, was killed on Wednesday in an altercation with Israeli soldiers after a year-long manhunt, according to Reuters. His death was verified on Thursday.
Sinwar received praise from Khamenei, who said, “He was a shining face of resistance and struggle.” He faced forth against the hostile and repressive opponent with steely resolution. He delivered them the devastating blow of October 7, which will go down in our region’s history, with courage and intelligence. Then he rose to the martyrs’ skies with dignity and glory.”
The alliance known as the “Axis of Resistance,” which has been supported by Iran for many years, is made up of Hamas, the Hezbollah organisation in Lebanon, the Houthi movement in Yemen, and many Shi’ite groups in Iraq and Syria.
The organisations refer to themselves as the opposition against American and Israeli hegemony in the Middle East.
“As always, we will remain by the side of the sincere fighters and combatants, by God’s grace and help,” said Khamenei.
