At the seaports of Apapa and Onne, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized opioids valued at over N7 billion.

In a statement released on Sunday, Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media & Advocacy for the Nigerian Drug Enforcement Agency, stated that on Tuesday, October 15, at the Apapa seaport in Lagos, NDLEA agents seized 162,351 bottles of codeine-based syrup from two containers. Additionally, during a joint examination of two containers with members of the Customs Service and other security agencies, at least 7,200,000 pills of Royal 225mg Tapentadol and Carisoprodol worth N3,600,000,000 in street value were taken from a watch-listed container from India at Port Harcourt Port Complex, Onne, Rivers state.

Additionally, from two other watch-listed containers that were equally searched at the port in Onne, 337,000 bottles of codeine-based syrup worth Two Billion Three Hundred and Fifty-Nine Million Naira (N2,359,000,000) were recovered from them on Tuesday, October 15, and Thursday, October 17. This brings the total value of the seized Tapentadol, Carisoprodol, and Codeine consignments at the two seaports to Seven Billion Ninety-Five Million Four Hundred and Fifty-Seven Thousand Naira (N7,095,457,000).

“On Tuesday, October 15, NDLEA operatives in Ondo state arrested three suspects: Goddey Obizuo, Samuel Aniete, and Kuffrey Aniete at Afo village where 672 kg of cannabis sativa was seized from them. A raid at Illushi forest in Esan South East LGA, Edo state led to the destruction of 10,590.36 kg of cannabis spread on 4.236144 hectares of farmland. Suspects arrested during the operation included: Benson Upuoni, 65, and Sunday Nwaeboyi, 35.

On Tuesday, October 15, NDLEA agents in Lagos detained Andrew Joseph Anoriode after finding 3 kg of methamphetamine and 1.90 kg of cannabis along the Lagos-Ibadan motorway. Additionally, 241 kg of the same drug was found in Gbaji, in the Badagry region of the state. Agbeiboh Oscar, a suspected meth cook, was apprehended at Abule Osun on Tuesday together with 265 grammes of methamphetamine and various amounts of precursor chemicals needed to make methamphetamine and other substances.
