DSP Joshua Ukandu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), reports that ten people were burned in various degrees during the event.
The gas explosion that shook the Orokeonuoha Community in the Ebonyi Local Government Area on Thursday did not result in any fatalities, according to the Ebonyi State Police Command.
DSP Joshua Ukandu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), reports that ten people were burned in various degrees during the event.
Ukandu told the public in a statement given on Saturday during an interview in Abakaliki that, in spite of the injuries, no fatalities had been recorded.
The event happened at the Good Shepherd Catering School in Orokeonuoha, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), “The event that happened on Thursday is known to the police. The victims were brought to the Abakaliki, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital. There were pupils present in the school at the time of the occurrence, and no deaths were reported.”
“Very unfortunate,” the PPRO said, citing a gas cylinder in the school’s kitchen as the likely source of the incident.
The fire department in Ebonyi State, however, disclosed that it was not made aware of the incident.
When questioned about the lack of action, Chief Fire Officer Ralph Ibiam stated, “Nobody alerted the fire service about the incident.”
Ibiam offered his condolences for the fatalities while cautioning that the state was witnessing an increase in gas explosions.
He cautioned people to abide by safety precautions, particularly to stay away from making phone calls in kitchens, at gas stations, or near electrical equipment since fire “moves like a wave.”
