Under the auspices of the Great Ife Students’ Union, students at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State, have asked that the school’s management immediately reverse the increase in tuition and costs for dormitory accommodations.
In a statement released on Sunday and signed by Omoboriowo Damilola Isaac, the president of the students’ union, Babatimehin Kinfeosi Joy, the secretary general, and PRO, also known as Daniel’s E., the union made the demand that they would not accept a sudden increase of 50% or 100% in their tuition and fees for living in dorms.
The letter claims that after a last-minute meeting, university administration made a decision and told the students of the rise.
In an emergency meeting at the Division of Students’ Affairs (DSA) level, the union, which vowed to oppose the increase, stated, “The school management, via the DSA, informed us of a proposed 50% and 100% increment in some of our charges (the payable sundry charge that we refer to as “school fees,” and the

“You may be confident that we are actively coordinating with the school administration to make sure that this rise is not sustained. We are investigating every option to ensure that our interests are upheld.

We restate our opposition to any kind of unjust treatment or exploitation of any and all Great Ife pupils. We’ll keep pushing for a complete turnaround.
