In the FESTAC town region of the state, the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps has launched an enforcement campaign against shanties erected on drainages and illegal roadside vendors.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, revealed this on Monday in a statement and video posted on X.com.
The operation, according to the statement, is a part of the continuous endeavour to uphold law and order in the state and stop environmental deterioration.
“Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, through the operatives of #LAGESCOfficial, earlier today conducted an enforcement operation at 21 Road, 211 Junction, FESTAC town, distancing illegal roadside traders and removing shanties built on the drainage and roadside thereby causing environmental nuisance on the road,” the statement stated, “as part of the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the state.”
In an effort to combat flooding, the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources has been removing buildings that are blocking the state’s drainage canals since earlier this month.
In August, DAILYPULSE revealed that buildings constructed on the System 157 drainage channel along Orchid Road in the state’s Eti-Osa region had been similarly destroyed.
The Lagos State Government further stressed that the enforcement and restoration of right-of-way for all of the state’s drainage systems will not be abandoned.
