The Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project and the Sokoto State Government have started building 37 roads totalling 267.6 km around the state.
This was said Monday by Malami Galadanchi, the state governor Ahmed Aliyu’s Special Adviser on RAAMP, during an inspection of a road construction project that was still underway in the state’s Gada Local Government Area.
The projects, according to Galadanchi, are in line with the administration’s 9-Point Agenda, which places a high priority on expanding agricultural produce’s market accessibility as part of initiatives to strengthen the state’s economy.
He declared, “Governor Aliyu is dedicated to creating a new Sokoto State where all citizens can take full advantage of government programs and reap the rewards of democracy.”
In order to increase the market value of agricultural products, the government is attempting to change rural communities by giving out free fertiliser, farming equipment, and better road access.
Galadanchi claims that in order to facilitate the flow of products and services to markets, 80.6 kilometres of access roads and 187 kilometres of authorised agricultural feeder roads are now under development.
He went on to say that these infrastructural improvements will greatly boost the state’s economic production and ease the difficulties farmers have in getting their produce to markets.
Galadanchi also highlighted the new roads’ beneficial effects on communities and commended the construction company managing the Gada LGA project for their commitment.
Bashir Achida, the Governor’s Special Advisor on Economic Affairs, reaffirmed the value of roads in promoting economic expansion by facilitating better access to markets.
“These roads will lower farmers’ transportation costs, which will help consumers pay less for goods,” Achida stated.
According to Malami Tambuwal, the project coordinator, the initiatives are planned to effectively address the requirements of rural inhabitants and are anticipated to be finished in 18 months.
