In the eastern Ukrainian province of Sumy, where Moscow has increased aircraft operations in recent months, Russian bombardments killed three people overnight, authorities reported Tuesday.
Sumy is located in Russia, just over the border from Kursk, where Ukrainian forces have been occupying large areas since launching a significant attack in August.
“A nighttime attack by enemy drones on residential buildings resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including one child,” regional officials stated, referring to Sumy.
They claimed that over two dozen assault drones with Iranian designs were shot down over the area. According to the air force, 42 of the 60 identified in Ukrainian airspace were destroyed.
Since the start of the conflict, when Russian forces temporarily seized portions of the industrial region before being driven out, Sumy, which borders Russia, has been continuously bombarded.
President Volodymyr Zelensky recently unveiled a larger plan to stop Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which includes the Ukrainian operation in Kursk.
