SS3 student remanded by Ondo court for accused colleague murder

Akure—A 15-year-old girl student at Anglican Grammar School named Arigidi Akoko has been placed on remand by Chief Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi of Ondo State for allegedly fatally stabbing her 17-year-old companion, Habib Salau.

Until the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, or DPP, office could provide guidance, the magistrate ordered her to be kept at the Ondo State Juvenile Home in Akure.

However, the magistrate rejected her request.

The SS3 student is on trial for allegedly using a knife to attack Habib Salau, 17, who passed away, following an altercation between them after school.

The defendant was taken to court on a two-count accusation of conspiracy and murder.

The juvenile criminal and another person at large conspired to commit murder on October 3 at around 3:30 p.m. at Imo, Arigidi Akoko, according to information previously provided to the court by Police Prosecutor Josephine Awana.

Awana said that during a struggle, the defendant killed Salau by stabbing him with a knife.

“After a misunderstanding between them, the defendant accused the deceased of accosting her on the way home,” the prosecution informed the court.

After a quarrel broke out, the defendant claimed that someone handed her a knife and gave her the order to stab the dead in the neck.

The prosecution claims that the charges violate Sections 124 and 319(1) of the Ondo State 2006 Criminal Code Laws.

In order to await the DPP’s advice, Awana requested that the court detain the criminal at the penitentiary facility.
