In relation to the murders of his twin newborn daughters, Massail and Mirena, who were discovered dead in their Houston home on October 4, 2023, a father named Fernando Vega has been charged with capital murder.

According to a Daily Mail UK article, Vega may be executed if convicted.

Vega and the twins’ mother, 21-year-old Angelina Belinda Calderon, were first taken into custody on April 19 and accused of causing serious physical harm to a child.

His accusations were then increased to two counts of capital murder, nevertheless, as more research revealed that he was purportedly the sole cause of the children’ deaths.

Police found the six-week-old twins unconscious on a couch in their Linden Creek Way home early on October 4.

When cops arrived, they saw that the newborns had bruises all over their bodies and discoloured skin; one of the girls had apparent fractures.

According to court records, the twins were underweight and had been released from the hospital without receiving the necessary medical attention.

Following an investigation, Dr. Jesus Rico, a pathologist at the Harris County Institute of Forensic Science, discovered fractures, bruises, and symptoms of dehydration that suggested past mistreatment.

One twin also had signs of recent trauma, including spinal cord damage and severe cerebral haemorrhage.

Before filing any murder charges, prosecutor Edward Appelbaum said at a court hearing on Wednesday that he plans to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the twins’ deaths.

While Vega awaits trial, the matter is still being investigated.
