Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has been accused of stepping in to resolve a developing dispute over territory claims inside the Ejigbo local government traditional council.
Speaking to reporters at his palace on Thursday, Oba Omowonuola Oyeyode, the Ogiyan of Ejigbo, emphasised the necessity for the State Government to invite Oba Kamil Ojelabi, the Olusongbe of Songbe, to support his claim to ownership of certain villages in the Ejigbo local government area in order to prevent a conflict.
Numerous local traditional leaders denounced Oba Ojelabi’s reported claims to control of around 40 Ejigbo communities as untrue.
Ogiyan believes that Olusongbe of Songbe need to be consulted and asked about this matter before the outcome is made public.
“I’m taking this chance to urge the Osun administration and governor to consult with federal authorities and give the king a chance to make his case publicly. Giving misleading information in an effort to portray yourself as someone you are not is really terrible.
Speaking via the Olosinmo of Osinmo, Oba Ogunniyi Olayiwola, other traditional leaders in the region deemed the assertion absurd.
Olusongbe’s declaration that he is the Ejigbo Local Government Council’s prescribed Authority and that he is the owner of the Ejigbo Local Government Land, which includes Songbe, Idigba, Olorin, Ibogunde, Imoru, Omolosan, Bada, Edoro, and a few other towns, up to 40 towns and hamlets, including the entire Ejigbo, is incorrect. We are now taking advantage of this chance to educate the people to reject his assertions.
The Ogiyan of Ejigbo, Oba Omowonuola Oyeyode Oyesosin ll, is in charge of all the monarchs in the Ejigbo Local Government area. The monarch said, “As you can see, more than 20 monarchs are present at the Palace of Ogiyan of Ejigbo.”
Olusongbe responded by stating that he had complete authority over Songbe villages and that he would not permit anybody to misrepresent the past since the records supporting his claim are still in place.
Instead of Ejigboland, the locations I described are referred to as Songbe territory. I have the required documentation to support my village count. Allow them to present any supporting documentation if they have any. People are being fed falsehoods by him (Ogiyan). Every subject in my towns came to plead for farmland, but he began designating them as Baales so they would support him over territory that was rightfully mine, he said.
