The All Progressives Grand Alliance’s (APGA) factional National Chairman, Mr. Sly Ezeokenwa, believes that President Bola Tinubu made a bold and admirable decision by appointing Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as a minister.
After Chief Victor Oye, the previous National Chairman, completed his two-term, eight-year term, Ezeokenwa was chosen as the APGA National Chairman in 2023. He talked with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday.
Subject to Senate confirmation, Tinubu named seven new ministers on Wednesday and gave them responsibilities.
The position of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs was given to Mrs. Odumegu-Ojukwu.
As the party’s father, Ezeokeonwa expressed his pride at Bianca’s selection.
One of the party’s most admired members, Bianca is a woman of exceptional character and the wife of our country’s most important leader.
Since APGA is not your typical political party, we have an external leader in life and death—the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu—who also serves as our spiritual head.
“I want to applaud Tinubu for taking such a bold and admirable step.”
He said that he had previously urged the president to assemble a capable cabinet of technocrats who could successfully advance his agenda.
A lawyer named Ezeokenwa stated that while he supported the president’s accomplishment, urgent action was needed to boost the economy.
“I can see that this nation’s economy has been suffering for the past few years; there is no denying that Nigerians are going through hardships.”
Regardless of how one chooses to play politics, the president has acknowledged on several occasions that he is aware of the suffering and anguish that Nigerians endure; therefore, he is aware of the fact that the inflation trend is concerning.
“You need to look beyond your party men, partisan politics, and party affiliations in order to try to turn things around. You need to find credible Nigerians who have what it takes, those technocrats and eggheads who can truly make a difference.”
“I want Tinubu to succeed because, in the end, it is all about Nigerians; if he succeeds, Nigeria will succeed; if he succeeds, the level of hunger in the country will decrease.”
He asserts that if the president is successful, investors will enter the market, improving the nation’s reputation.
Nigeria should rank among the top five economies in the world, he argued, not only the top country in Africa.
“I applaud the president for taking that very bold and audacious step, looking beyond his political party to invite people who have what it takes to help in his renewed hope agenda; we have what it takes, we have the vast human capital.”
He continued by saying that in order to handle the numerous security issues the nation has, Nigeria’s security architecture needed to be decentralised.
Regarding the party problem, he stated that the APGA remained a one, inseparable family and that there was no fictionalisation inside the organisation.
Since politics is all about dynamism, we at APGA don’t lose sight of the possibility that problems may arise but that the party will still prosper.
He stated, “What we have in APGA today is not fictionalisation; rather, it is an attempt by some individuals who are not APGA members to take over the party through the back door.”
