VICE IN ABUJA After a foreign object struck his jet during a stopover at JFK Airport in New York, President Kashim Shettima’s journey to Samoa to represent Nigeria at the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit has been cancelled.
“The foreign object damaged the cockpit windscreen of the plane,” stated Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement released yesterday night.
The statement claims that although the plane’s maintenance has begun, President Tinubu has swiftly authorised a ministerial delegation to represent Nigeria at the meeting in the Samoan capital of Apia.
The Environment Minister, Balarabe Abass Lawal, is leading the group, which will now represent Nigeria at the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa.
On October 21, the conference got underway on the Pacific island. The last day is October 26.
