Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory’s minister, expressed sadness that the current procurement rules was impeding projects’ prompt completion.
At the flag-off to start the full-scope development of Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) from the Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III in Abuja on Friday, Wike made this statement.
He said that the procurement law modification will aid in removing the administrative roadblocks impeding project completion in the nation’s capital.
“The procurement law is part of our dilemma, part of our major headache,” stated the FCT Minister. Yes, the procurement legislation serves to safeguard and ensure the security of our funds. However, when you consider the whole picture, it pushes us back.
According to Wike, it might sometimes take over four months for a purchase to be approved.
“We changed the law to say that in every job we have done with Julius Berger then, we will pay 70%,” Wike said, stating that he had to change such laws in his capacity as governor. We completed 12 flyovers in four years as a result.
Wike congratulated Tinubu, stating that the president has helped him do out his duties as the FCT Minister.
