
On Friday, the Defence headquarters acknowledged that they were aware of a navy personnel who was shot dead by his naval colleague in Zamfara State following an undisclosed altercation.
According to reports, following an altercation in Dansadau, Maru Local Government Area, Zamfara state, early on Friday morning, leading sailor LS Akila fired his service gun on his colleague.
According to reports, LS Akila shot his colleague when the two employees, who were assigned to Team 3 (previously Operation Hadarin Daji, now Operation Sheto Yanma), got into a fight.
“On October 25, at approximately 03.12 hours, naval personnel, LS Akila, deployed at FOB Dansadau for Operation Fansan Yamma, opened fire sporadically in questionable circumstances, killing a fellow military colleague,” said Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, in response to the development.
He was then taken into custody, disarmed, and jailed, and an inquiry into the matter has since begun.
Following an inquiry, the matter will be brought before a standing court martial, which is intended to deal with such troop misconduct.
The official process for informing the deceased’s relatives is still in progress.
His name hasn’t been made public yet because of this. However, the name will be made public when the time is right.
