According to the Enugu police command, a Police Inspector with the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad has been arrested and held in connection with the suspected murder of artist Okezie Mba, also known as Igbo-Jah.
DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Command’s spokesperson, made this announcement in Enugu on Saturday.
According to Ndukwe, the event happened at the Tactical Squad’s Headquarters in Enugu on October 25 at about 8:10 p.m.
Igbo-Jah’s Ogene (traditional) lyrics were well-known.
He said that following a visit to the Squad’s Headquarters, the musician was apparently departing when the police officer, for unknown reasons, shot his gun and struck the victim.
Ndukwe was taken to the hospital right away, when it was determined that he was dead. His remains have been placed in the mortuary for examination and preservation.
According to Ndukwe, the State Criminal inquiry Department was instructed by Commissioner of Police Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu to carry out a thorough inquiry into the events leading up to the occurrence.
Additionally, Uzuegbu directed the department to support the police officer’s timely and suitable disciplinary procedures.
The victim’s relatives, friends, and companions were comforted by the Commissioner, who expressed empathy and called the regrettable occurrence intolerable.
He stated that in order to act as a deterrence, the police officer and any other person proven to be at fault will face legal repercussions.
In order to guarantee that justice was done, he asked all those connected to the victim to maintain their composure and assist the police.
