More than 500 “Baban Bola” led to the collapse of a destroyed Abuja building:

Reports of a building collapse in the Sabon Lugbe region of the territory on Saturday night that reportedly trapped over 40 people in the wreckage have been denied as propaganda by the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s Department of Development Control (FCTA).

In an explanation letter released on Sunday, department director Mukhtar Galadima stated that the building had already been demolished and that when the remaining portion of the destroyed structure collapsed, scavengers, known as “Baban Bola,” had entered the site in an attempt to scavenge iron rods.

“This is to bring to the Department’s attention that the media publication regarding the collapse of a multi-story building in Lugbe is merely propaganda,” he stated.

The subject structure was an incomplete building that was demolished on Thursday, and it is located inside the site that is presently undergoing destruction.

According to the information obtained, there was a large number of scavengers (more than 500) at the site who pulled down and carried away iron rod remnants. The remnants of a destroyed slab fell on them as a result of their actions.
