A member of the Nigerian House of Representatives named Alex Ikwechegh has apologised for attacking a Bolt driver who was delivering a package to him.
Ikwechegh expressed regret for his acts, which were caught on camera in a widely shared video, and called the conduct “unacceptable” for a public official in a statement titled “A Statement of Regret and Commitment to Justice.”
He has pledged to assist with the current police inquiry and seek professional counselling to deal with the matter.
“As a public servant, I acknowledge the trust that my constituents and the Nigerian people have placed in me,” Ikwechegh said. I sincerely apologise for my actions, which did not meet the expectations placed on me. He expressed regret for the humiliation and damage done to the driver, his supporters, and the country.
Dedication to Progress
Ikwechegh highlighted his participation in community service projects that promote empathy, understanding, and respect, and he promised to use counselling to address the “underlying issues.”
An Appeal for Dignity and Respect
In his closing remarks, he asked Nigerians to foster a culture of decency, respect, and tolerance, highlighting the fact that a society where everyone is treated fairly and compassionately can be created by group efforts.
He asked for help in his drive for accountability and development and thanked the people for their understanding.
