GRID BREAK DOWN: Coleman laments the effect on production

The government has received advice from Coleman Wires and Cables Limited on the necessity of replacing old cables that have outlived their usefulness and caused inefficiencies across the electricity distribution system.

Speaking in light of the recent power outages, Mr. George Onafowokan, Managing Director of Coleman Wires and Cables, urged Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, to take immediate action to rectify the deteriorating infrastructure that is causing the national grid to collapse more often.

According to Onafowokan, who stated that it is vital to modernise key infrastructure, many of the cables now in use are no longer functional, which leads to regular grid outages that have a major effect on the industrial sector.

According to him, factories have been impacted by these failures, and many are now forced to use expensive substitutes like diesel-powered generators.

He said: “Energy costs are driving up manufacturing costs, which makes it hard for businesses to stay in business.” The issue has been made worse by rising diesel prices, which have made it difficult for many firms to continue operating, Onafowokan said.
