The Senate delays ministerial nominee review.

The Senate has announced that the ministerial nominee screening, which was originally planned for today, has been postponed.

Moving the shift to the next day will allow the nominees to submit all required paperwork and provide them enough time to finish their pre-screening and documentation.

This is stated in a statement that Senator Basheer Lado, President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Senate Matters, signed on Tuesday.

A new date has been set for the screening: Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 12:00 pm.

“Postponement of Ministerial Screening” is the title of the announcement.

“The Senate has delayed the planned screening of ministerial nominees,” Lado stated. This will enable all nominees to complete the pre-screening and paperwork requirements.

“The screening has been moved to Wednesday, October 30th at precisely 22 p.m.”

The public’s cooperation and understanding are greatly appreciated by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters.

Remember how the President’s Special Advisor said in a statement on Monday that the screening will Hold Today.

“Ministerial nominees have started documentation ahead of their screening and confirmation by the Senate, which begins on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024,” he said in a statement on Monday, according to Sen. Basheer Lado, CON, Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters.

As the first step in a sequence of steps for ministerial nomination screening and approval, he said the nominees were already sending in pertinent paperwork.

“The Senate is expected to screen and confirm the nominees in accordance with Section 147 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended) Constitution.”

Remember how President Tinubu wrote to the Senate to request that seven cabinet nominees announced in Abuja on Wednesday be screened and then confirmed?

In a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu made the request, which was read aloud at plenary last Thursday.

The letter said that Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Labour and Employment; Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu, Minister of State, Foreign Affairs; and Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, were the ministerial nominees.

Others were Idi Muktar Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development; Rt Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Minister of State, Housing; Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, Minister of State, Education; and Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Development.

In the letter, President Tinubu asked the Senate to give his proposal prompt consideration.

As a result, the Senate promptly forwarded the presidential request to the committee of the whole for review, as Akpabio declared.

According to the letter, the ministerial nominees were Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu, Minister of State, Foreign Affairs; and Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Labour and Employment.

The others were Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, Minister of State for Education; Rt Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Minister of State for Housing; Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Development; and Idi Muktar Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development.

President Tinubu requested in the letter that the Senate examine his proposal as soon as possible.

According to Akpabio, the Senate swiftly sent the presidential request to the committee of the whole for consideration.
