A group demands an investigation and denounces the plan to demarket Enugu International Airport.

According to the Enugu Good Governance Group, the intentional attempt to demarket the Akanu Ibiam International Airport was seen to be baseless and an unhealthy rivalry that had been carried too far.

According to the Enugu Good Governance Group, the intentional attempt to demarket the Akanu Ibiam International Airport was seen to be baseless and an unhealthy rivalry that had been carried too far.

The organisation, which was responding to a report that said the airport’s runway was in poor condition and that it may be closed to prevent a plane disaster, praised the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, or FAAN, for promptly refuting the false information.

Mr. Chuks Onovo, the group’s director of communications, released a statement on Wednesday in which the group expressed their unhappiness.

“We would like to thank FAAN for dispelling the false information and stating that the Enugu runway is in good condition and indeed ranks among the finest in the nation.

As FAAN has explained, this assertion is completely false. We now know that the aforementioned newspaper was created by unhealthy federal competitors who are intent on demarketing the Enugu airport in order to improve their own financial situation.

Given that the runway at Akanu Ibiam International Airport is now among the most advanced and high-quality in the nation, this is undoubtedly a very regrettable and careless statement and action. This came after the Federal Government approved and released N10 billion in October 2019 for the complete renovation of the runway, taxiway, lead way, VSAT and VHF radio communication, state-of-the-art instrument landing system, airfield lighting, and more.

Even the construction of a second runway is currently being considered, and the federal government and the state government of Enugu are working together to complete and operationalise the international terminal and build a cargo terminal at the airport.

According to the statement, “it defies logic that a group of individuals would band together to destroy the airport and try to deter travellers and airline operators for their own self-serving ends.”

The organisation also urged Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Advisor, or NSA, to look into the bogus allegation in order to hold those responsible.

Airports serve as both economic and national security assets, so the Enugu Good Governance Group came to the conclusion that the Office of the NSA should look into this fraud and the deliberate demarketing of the Enugu Airport in detail in order to find the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

The Enugu Good Governance Group concluded that the Office of the NSA should conduct a thorough investigation into this fraud and the intentional demarketing of the Enugu Airport in order to identify the offenders and bring them to justice, since airports are both economic and national security assets.
