An empowerment and capacity-building initiative aimed at educating and empowering grassroots women in community garden farming and vegetable market programs has been launched by the wife of Anambra State Governor Dr. Nonye Soludo.
The “Flag-off of Healthy Living Community Garden and Vegetable Market Programs,” which is being carried out in conjunction with “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo,” aims to increase food security, productivity, and the value of exercise among the locals.
Speaking at Friday’s exercise in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Soludo stated that the project is anticipated to give locals the fundamental knowledge of sustainable organic farming methods, enabling them to make a substantial contribution to food security and open doors for their diverse families to become economically empowered.
According to her, the decision to establish a community garden for healthy living was made because of its high nutritional content and all-natural nature, which promotes physical and mental well-being.
“Everything we are doing today is for both men and women,” she stated. This program, which we are kicking off, is starting in Idemili North LGA. The “healthy living community garden and vegetable market programs” will contribute to increasing food production and guaranteeing everyone’s overall well-being.
“We are introducing it in every local government jurisdiction. This project is carried out globally. Only organic crops that are good for the body will be planted on the farm. Since a healthy individual is able to participate in business and economic activities, health is the greatest asset.
We hope to utilise this project, which has begun in Idemili North LGA, to educate people about the value of leading healthy lives. There are certain fruits that people are unaware may be grown on our land, yet they are truly flourishing there. There will be nothing artificial planted in these communal gardens.
“The vegetable market programs will only focus on vegetables. What we plant there will be about vegetables. It is also a way to support the people in agriculture to promote food security. It will help to boost food production, and it will be cheaper in the market.” Soludo emphasised the importance of exercising daily, saying that educating people about the value of exercise means empowering them to make healthy, sustainable lifestyle choices.
Additionally, we are teaching individuals how to handle emergencies. These days, when there is a critical emergency, individuals create films rather than doing resuscitation techniques. In an emergency, we may provide a variety of services, such as first aid.
“Saturday healthy living workout sessions in LGAs” are another aspect of this initiative. We are starting an exercise campaign to educate individuals about the benefits of exercise for weight management and the heart.
“We want to introduce the exercise to every Anambra resident because it also improves an individual’s mood and activates the hormones that make you happy on a daily basis,” Soludo continued.
Speaking as well, Dr. Adam Obidike, the state commissioner for health, stated that the exercise supports the state government’s goal of increasing local agricultural output and encouraging women in grassroots communities to be self-sufficient.
Residents were given thousands of seedlings of various vegetables and crops to cultivate in their gardens.
