President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to combat abduction, banditry, and other associated crimes throughout the nation.
He said this Saturday during the Federal University of Dutsinma’s 9th Convocation ceremony in Katsina State.
However, the President stated that civilians may also contribute to the battle against insecurity by giving security personnel information that would help them in their efforts.
On behalf of Federal University, Dutste, Jigawa State, Vice Chancellor Prof. Abdulkarim Mohammed, the President urged young people to take advantage of the Nigerian Loan Scheme, which has disbursed more over N70 billion in loans.
Tinubu reminded Nigerians that Nigeria and Nigerians are what would improve the country, not the president or those in positions of authority.
“I want to reassure all Nigerians that the administration is totally dedicated to fighting and defeating all criminal activities in Nigeria, including banditry, abduction, and terrorism.
But we all share responsibility for security. President Tinubu said, “I implore all Nigerians to cooperate with the government by providing security agents with pertinent information about suspicious individuals, miscreants, and other criminal elements.”
In addition, the president urged students to represent the school and the nation well wherever they receive their financial support.
He urged university professors to use information and communication technology to enhance their instruction and to meet the standards set for preparing the country’s future leaders.
In his earlier remarks, Prof. Armaya’u Bichi, the vice chancellor of Federal University Dutsinma, outlined the institution’s difficulties, citing insecurity as the main issue.
“As we are aware, the security situation in and around Dutsin-Ma in recent times has forced us to abandon the main campus and crowd ourselves at the university’s take-off campus, which is sorely lacking in structures and facilities to accommodate the 14 faculties and a large number of staff and students,” Bichi said.
In addition, Dandeson Douglas, the Chairman of Convocation and Chancellor of FUDMA, King Jaja of Opobo, stated that the organisation is actively working to increase its Internally Generated Revenue.
To increase our IGR, the university has set up a consulting unit, printing press, microfinance bank, pure water factory, and staff primary and secondary schools. As this outstanding university’s chancellor, I will keep reaching out to the federal government, philanthropic organisations, stakeholders, private organisations, non-governmental organisations, entrepreneurs, and university alumni to ask for help in meeting the institution’s requirements.
Douglas also urged the president to pay attention to the persistent insecurity that plagues the student body.
If I do not call your attention to the security issues plaguing this illustrious university, which have prevented any activity from taking place on the main campus, I will be failing in my duty as its chancellor. The take-off campus, where all university events, including this Convocation Ceremony, are held, is woefully deficient in buildings and amenities for both employees and students, he noted.
According to PUNCH Online, 297 postgraduate students were graduated by FUDMA. Of them, 18 hold a Ph.D., 226 a Master’s, 53 a Professional Diploma, and one holds a PGD.
Of the 4282 undergraduates, 872 have second class upper and 44 have first class. 1076 have third class, 17 have second class lower, and 2273 have get degrees.
