In the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations, Kwankwaso criticises the ridiculous bail requirements for kids.

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s (NNPP) presidential candidate and former governor of Kano State, has voiced his disapproval of the bail requirements placed on the #EndBadGovernance demonstrators.

According to him, it is quite uncommon for so many kids to be arraigned, and it goes against the core values of dignity and human rights.

Kwankwaso highlighted the undernourished condition of the children and the pressing need for medical care in a message published on his X account on Friday.

“The arraignment of 67 minors by the Nigeria Police Force in an Abuja court for alleged participation in the End Bad Governance Protest is shocking,” he remarked.

These kids, who are clearly undernourished and in need of medical care, have endured a horrific ordeal when they ought to be attending school.

“It is extremely unusual for so many minors to be arraigned in their states, and it violates every principle of protecting human rights and dignity.”

It is our responsibility as leaders to safeguard those who are most in need, especially women, children, the elderly, and the poor. Furthermore, this breach shouldn’t be led by the government.

The strict requirements for their release particularly horrify me; it is ridiculous that a grade 15 government official must obtain 10 million Naira in order to be released on bail, and a teenager must do the same.

“Every child’s dignity is safeguarded by Section 11 of the Child’s Rights Act 2003, which also protects them from abuse, neglect, and maltreatment, as well as from physical, mental, or emotional harm.”

Additionally, he called on the Federal Government to stop locking up youngsters and instead concentrate on addressing problems like banditry, abduction, Boko Haram, unreliable electricity, and severe economic policies.
