The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) freed Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, on bail Saturday after he was arrested for attempting to leave the nation on suspicion of bribing EFCC officers.
At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos late Thursday evening, the infamous transvestite was prevented from boarding a KLM aircraft headed for Amsterdam with plans to proceed to London.
Bobrisky promptly used social media to notify his fans about his arrest, claiming that he was hurt during the incident. “Nigerians, help me, the EFCC just arrested me,” he wrote. I have serious injuries.
After being transported to the EFCC’s Abuja headquarters, he was questioned about claims of bribery inside the organisation.
According to a voicemail posted by social critic Martins Otse, also known online as VeryDarkMan, Bobrisky paid N15 million to EFCC officers in order to get the money laundering accusations against him withdrawn.
According to reports, Bobrisky was released after obtaining his bail late on Friday evening.
His release was verified to Sunday PUNCH on Saturday by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, who declined to speak more.
However, a person with knowledge of the issue told the newspaper that Bobrisky’s formal statement refuted all claims of bribery.
Additionally, according to the source, Bobrisky pushed VeryDarkMan to produce evidence.
In order to get the money laundering accusations against him dropped, he denied any involvement in the release of funds to any official. In his statement, he denied it.
He suggested that the person who uploaded the audio message should visit and provide an explanation. According to the source, he said that no one in the EFCC asked him for money and that he gave nothing to anyone.
