Itesiwaju Mainland, a political pressure organisation inside the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, was officially launched on Saturday with the goal of mobilising voters in the state’s mainland region in front of 2027.
Remember that Herbert Macaulay Primary School in Yaba hosted the group’s first gathering.
The first gathering was attended by hundreds of locals from the eleven wards of the Mainland Local Government Area.
Prince Aliyu Momoh, the group’s interim chairman, stated in his remarks that the organisation was established to start early mobilisation and preparation for the general election in 2027 and the local government election in 2025.
Momoh went on to say that the organisation was established following discussions with local political stakeholders.
Our elders were in agreement with us. They encouraged us to move forward with organising people to take an active role in politics.
“We are also forming this group to ensure that the dividends of democracy are delivered in order to promote the welfare of the people,” he stated.
According to Momoh, the group’s leaders were the ones funding it rather than any politicians.
He claims that APC is the most popular option on the Mainland and that the group wants to increase its level of support.
However, he said that the group’s leaders had been neglected throughout the years in the state’s overall scheme of things.
“We are basically preparing this new group of individuals for politics and to improve their well-being.
“We are confident that we can bring democratic dividends to the region with the help of our prominent local government elders,” he stated.
According to him, the group is also set up to promote peaceful co-existence among all interest groups in the area.
“We are against politics of bitterness and thuggery in the area. We are members of APC and we are for peaceful conduct,” Momoh added.
The General Secretary of the group, Mr Kola Atanda, said that membership was drawn from all the 11 wards in the local government.
At least 850 locals enrolled and showed support for the group’s mission, according to Atanda.
As they spoke, other group leaders emphasised the need of peace, togetherness, and avoiding do-or-die politics.
Prince Abiodun Okanlomo, Mr. Oluwagbenga Ogunleye, Mr. Segun Davies, Mrs. Bose Benson, Mr. Mumuni Koro, Chief Nurudeen Otunbade, and Alhaja Aishat Jawando are among the group leaders present.
