NAAT will proceed with the planned demonstration while NASU and SSANU cease their strike.

The continuing statewide indefinite strike over the four months of delayed pay has been suspended, according to the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU).

A circular sent to all chapters of the two university-based unions states that the suspension would begin on November 5, 2024.

Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, national president of SSANU, and Prince Peters Adeyemi, general secretary of NASU, both signed the circular.

However, if the roughly 50% of the five months’ withheld salaries are not paid as promised at the end of the two-week ultimatum to the Federal Government, the National Association of Academic Technologists, or NAAT, stated that it will proceed with its planned nationwide protest and picketing of the Federal Ministry of Finance.

It is anticipated that the October 30 ultimatum will end on November 13.

Comrade Ibeji Nwokoma, the president of NAAT, told Vanguard that his members had gotten one month of the roughly three months they anticipated.
