Launch of the first wooden satellite in history

As part of a resupply mission to the International Space Station, the Japanese inventors of the world’s first wooden satellite announced Tuesday that it had launched on a SpaceX rocket.

When the gadget re-enters the atmosphere, Kyoto University scientists anticipate that the wooden material will burn off, possibly offering a technique to prevent the production of metal particles upon the return of a retired satellite to Earth.
