Alonyenu Francis Idu, the State Commissioner of Police, paraded the suspect at the state police command headquarters on Wednesday. He revealed that a search was conducted after a case of suspected kidnapping was reported by a guy named Mr. Gemade Esua Igoniamine in October.
He claims that after a search was conducted, no evidence was found on the security surveillance cameras at the scene of the kidnapping or the state’s exit.
“We received a distress call that a man had been abducted by a black jeep carrying military personnel; we checked all of our cameras and found no car of that identity,” he stated. Later, we received a call requesting a N10 million ransom from someone claiming to have abducted a victim.
After the ransom was paid, Frank Thompson, a resident of Nembe Local Government Area, was arrested by the anti-kidnapping agents who had sprung into action.
“The suspects admitted during questioning that they staged the kidnapping in order to obtain ransom,” he continued.
“Two million naira was paid, which was used to track them down to the hotel where they had stayed outside the state, even though they had previously demanded N10 m random.”
Using the platform, the Commissioner of Police expressed gratitude to Bayelsans, youth organisations, and other partners who have joined the command in stopping crime and criminality before it starts.
He gave locals his word that the police would not give up on creating a safe environment in Bayelsa.
