Over 100 persons, including women, children, and the elderly, were kidnapped by roving bandits in Zamfara State when they attacked settlements in Wanke, close to the capital Gusau.
The community’s Chief Imam, who had previously been freed from captivity and was undergoing treatment for a leg injury, was one among the abductees.

According to local accounts, this is the second time the Chief Imam has been kidnapped.
Police and state officials have not yet released a comment regarding the incident as of this writing.
In an interview that was aired on Wednesday, a survivor told the BBC Hausa Service that the impacted areas were in chaos and that people were escaping because they were afraid of more attacks.
“Over 50 people were taken near Sabon Layi, and about 50 more were abducted near Dogon Hayi,” he claimed, adding that the precise number was still unknown because of the ensuing turmoil and terror as residents frantically sought refuge.
As if they were chasing animals, the terrorists pursued people,” he continued. They stalked women inside their homes, chased people on motorcycles, and kidnapped them. Some were herded into the bush after being stopped while trying to escape.
He explained how the attackers stole motorcycles, farm goods, and personal belongings including smartphones from several communities, including Gira, Ruwa Kusa, Dogon Hayi, and Gidan Kado. They also stole food from stores.
Officials in Wanke have apparently been notified by community members, but no official response has been received as of yet.

According to the victim, these attacks have been a problem in their towns for about nine years, forcing many locals to flee to Gusau and other places for safety. He bemoaned, “There are no animals here anymore.” “Everyone is terrified once night falls because it is now very risky to spend the night in these communities.”
Attempts to get police comments on the incident were fruitless, according to the BBC Hausa report.
