On Wednesday, the families of thirty-nine Kaduna State children who had been held by the federal government were reunited.
Each child received N100,000 and an Itel A18s smartphone from the state government at a brief ceremony held at the “Children’s Homes” along Katuru Road in Kaduna.

Governor Uba Sani promised to help the kids reintegrate into society by offering them options for empowerment and rehabilitation to help them grow up to be law-abiding, responsible adults.
Dr. Abdulkadir Muazu Meyere, Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, spoke on behalf of the governor and said that the governor had given him instructions to gather credentials from people who had finished their higher education. Meyere stated, “The Governor promised that some of them will be offered employment, others will receive skills training, and some will receive start-up capital for trading.”
The government will keep an eye on every child’s behaviour and grant these benefits only when they behave well. To facilitate tracking and follow-up, contact information was documented, including addresses, phone numbers, and next-of-kin details.
Each child got psycho-social counselling and a medical assessment upon release, with an emphasis on community service and personal growth. The children were also given advice by religious leaders from the Christian and Islamic communities, who emphasised the value of faith and the perils of harmful influences.
Meyere clarified that “the Governor graciously granted each of them N100,000 as a measure of goodwill” and that the kids were given phones since they had misplaced theirs while in custody.
