Nigeria’s national power grid meltdown has plunged the country into darkness for the ninth time in 2024.
An official statement signed by JosDisco, Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Friday Adakole, was made public on the Nigeria National Grid’s official X page (@NationalGridNg).
The post stated: “A loss of power supply from the national grid is the cause of the current outage that is occurring within our franchise states.” On Thursday, November 7, 2024, at approximately 11:28 AM, the national grid lost electricity, which is why all of our feeders are without power.
As soon as the grid supply returns to normal, we hope to provide our valued clients with a regular power supply again. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to provide you with better service.
In a statement to consumers, the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) also acknowledged the most recent collapse.

“Please be advised that we encountered a system outage today, November 07, 2024, at 11:29 hours, impacting supply within our network,” the DISCO stated.
Although no date was given, IKEDC reassured customers that work is being done with important parties to restore power.
“Supply restoration is still in progress. Please be patient with us,” the business continued.
Regarding the cause of Thursday’s grid breakdown, the Transmission Company of Nigeria, or TCN, has not yet released an official statement.
