As the results of the presidential election put Donald Trump on the brink of one of the most spectacular comebacks in US political history, he declared a “magnificent” victory over Kamala Harris on Wednesday.

Before the full results were known, world leaders hurried to congratulate him. The president of Ukraine in particular urged Trump to assist in achieving a “just peace” against Russia.

As the results were announced, the atmosphere at Harris’s watch party at Howard University, her former college and a historically Black university in Washington, drastically changed to one of “scared.”

“I’m afraid,” Charlyn Anderson declared. “I’m nervous right now. My legs hardly move, therefore I’m leaving.

In a contest that would have significant ramifications for both the US and the rest of the world, millions of Americans had waited in line throughout Election Day and millions more had cast their ballots early.
