Following reports of rioting in Amsterdam that injured Israeli football fans, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dispatched two rescue planes to the Netherlands on Friday.
In a statement, his office said that Prime Minister Netanyahu takes the horrific event very seriously and calls on the Dutch government and security services to act quickly and forcefully against the rioters in order to protect the safety of our people.
The Dutch media outlet AT5 said that clashes broke out between fans at a Europa League match between Maccabi Tel-Aviv and Ajax on Thursday night. The prime minister’s office did not specify what caused the “very violent incident against Israeli citizens.”

According to the report, there had been a lot of fighting and destruction in the city centre.
It stated, “There are a lot of mobile unit vehicles here, and reinforcements have also been called in.”
“Hundreds” of Maccabi supporters were “ambushed and attacked in Amsterdam tonight as they left the stadium following a game,” according to the Israeli embassy in the US.
The embassy attributed the incident to a “mob who targeted innocent Israelis” in a post on the social media site X.
The ANP news agency was informed by a Dutch police spokeswoman that 57 persons had been taken into custody.
In a statement, Israel’s new foreign minister Gideon Saar said he had asked the Dutch government for help in making sure Israelis could safely leave their hotels and head to the airport.
Dutch police were seen bringing supporters back to their hotels in pictures posted by AT5.
Following a number of incidents, including the removal of a Palestinian flag from a building, Amsterdam police posted on social media on Thursday that they were being especially watchful.
For security considerations, the Amsterdam municipal council moved a pro-Palestinian demonstration against the Israeli football team’s arrival that was originally planned to happen close to the stadium.
